1. When are you doing this?

A: I’m planning on leaving Houston July 9, 2008.

2. I didn’t think you could drive to South America?

A: You can … sorta .. but not for why you think.  The problem isn’t water, it is jungle/wetlands.  There is a 100 mile stretch called the Darien Gap that is in the north of Colombia and the south of Panama.  People have tried a few times to make a road, but due to environmental and political reasons, they’ve never been successful.

3. How long are you going to be on the road?

A: Who knows. I’m going to take my time. One thing to consider is that I want to drive through the Patagonia in the summer.

4. Which countries are you planning to visit?

A: Every country in Central America and the countries along the west coast of Central America.

5. Who are you going with?

A: Solo — It’d be nice to meet up with people along the way, but I’ve been unable to convince any of my friends to join me. SO, if you’re in the area where I am, PLEASE contact me. I’m sure I’ll need a break of struggling with Español.

6. Do you speak Spanish?

A: I can get by. I can do basic transactions and talk about simple things. No politics or have been wasing.

7. SOLO?? Aren’t you afraid of banditos?

A: I’ll be so stinky on the road that no one will want to come near me.

8.  SOLO??? Aren’t you afraid of getting hurt?

A:  I’m going to get MedJetAssist.  They provide insurance such that if I get hurt they’ll jet me off back to the homeland.  Mostly I’m going to try to be careful on the ride and always wear proper gear.  ATGATT!! (All the gear, all the time!!)

9.  How are you going to prevent from getting lost all the time?  Do you have maps?

A:  I’m obsessed with maps.  I have paper maps of every country.  I’m also buying the smellybiker worldmap set for my Garmin Zumo.  I haven’t used his mapset, but it looks pretty good.

10.  Travel guides.  What are you using?

A:  Mostly getting my information online from blogs and forum postings.   I’ll probably bring a travel guide or two, but I don’t want to weigh myself down.

11.  What kinda techy stuff are you bringing?

A:  Yeah, I’m a big nerd, so I’m bringing my laptop (ASUS EEE), point and shoot camera, and a DSLR.

12.  What are you going to do with INDY!, your dog?

A:  INDY! is going to stay with my parents in Kansas City.
