I bought the bike used in the middle of 2007 after returning from my Guanajuato Mexico trip. On that trip, I was riding my 2007 DL650 V-strom. While it was a great bike, it wasn’t the right bike for the kind of trip I want to make: Great on the highways, very top heavy on the looser stuff. Being of the inseam-challenged, the F650 GS was the logical choice.

I found a great deal on craigslist from a person who loved his bike but had other priorities in his life that forced him to sell it. It was outfitted nearly perfectly for my intended trip:
